Disability Insurance Coverage
BetterHealth provides short-term and long-term disability insurance to protect your income if you're unable to work due to illness or injury.
Short-Term Disability (STD)
- Benefit: 60% of weekly salary
- Waiting period: 7 days for illness, 0 days for injury
- Duration: Up to 26 weeks
- Cost: Company-paid
Long-Term Disability (LTD)
- Benefit: 60% of monthly salary (up to $10,000/month)
- Waiting period: 180 days (after STD ends)
- Duration: Until age 65 or recovery
- Cost: Company-paid
When to File a Claim
File if you're unable to work for more than 7 days due to:
- Illness or medical condition
- Injury (work or non-work related)
- Surgery and recovery
- Pregnancy complications
- Mental health conditions
How to File
- Notify your manager and HR immediately
- Contact insurance carrier: 1-800-555-DISABILITY
- Complete claim forms (online or paper)
- Provide medical documentation from doctor
- Claims processed within 2 weeks
While on Disability
- Benefits paid biweekly via direct deposit
- Health insurance continues (you pay employee portion)
- Cannot work while receiving benefits
- Must provide ongoing medical updates
Returning to Work
- Provide doctor's release
- Gradual return-to-work available
- Coordinate with HR and manager
- Disability benefits stop when you return
